EUNADICS-AV in expansion of EUMETNET will set up an Aviation Safety Management System for Europe and facilitate coherent Pan-European risk and exposure assessments for aviation related to airborne hazards (environmental emergency scenarios). University of Salzburg (USBG) will contribute by adapting an existing ATM/ATC/CNS simulation environment (NAVSIM/USBG Sim) to support human- in- the- loop exercises of selected natural disaster events. USBG will analyze impact on European air traffic in case of natural disaster events e.g. Volcanic Ash eruption, Nuclear/Chemical accidents, forest fires and desert dust events) by simulation. USBG will build upon long lasting experiences in system evaluation based on large scale European air traffic simulations to contribute to risk assessment and impact on aviation domain in case of natural/technical hazards and disaster scenarios. Several possible volcanic eruption scenarios as well as nuclear accident scenarios in the core area of European air traffic will be studied and analyzed in detail.
